Cortney & Dan

Windmill village hotel, Coventry

A sunny, rainy and wonderfully chaotic wedding day at Windmill Village Hotel, Coventry.

There’s something I love about photographing weddings where you never quite know what the weather is going to do next. One minute the sun is shining, the next you’re caught in a downpour and somehow, it just becomes part of the story. That was certainly the case for Cortney and Dan’s wedding at Windmill Village Hotel.

I had the pleasure of second shooting for With Georgina Photography capturing some of the moments throughout their day and getting to be part of such a fun celebration.

A day full of personality...

From the very beginning, there was such a brilliant atmosphere around Cortney and Dan’s wedding. There was lots of laughter, plenty of energy and absolutely no shortage of things happening around us. The weather gave us a bit of everything, with gorgeous sunshine one minute and rain the next. But rather than letting it get in the way, it became another part of the day and honestly, some of the most memorable moments came from embracing it.

That’s one of the things I love about documentary-style wedding photography. You can plan the timings, the outfits, the flowers and all the little details, but you can’t plan everything that happens once the day actually gets going.

And that’s where the magic is.

Champagne, golf carts & lots of laughter!

Cortney and Dan’s day was full of the kind of moments that made it feel completely theirs. There was plenty of fun throughout the day, from driving around in the golf carts and making the most of the sunshine to champagne celebrations and beer bottle runs with groomsmen. There was laughter everywhere, and so many little interactions happening naturally between the bigger moments.

These are the photographs I always find myself drawn to: the ones where nobody is thinking about the camera. A friend caught mid-laugh, an unexpected moment of chaos, or a celebration that happened without anyone planning it. The moments where everyone is simply caught up in enjoying themselves.

They might only last a few seconds, but those are often the photographs that take you straight back to how the day actually felt.

Windmill Village Hotel

The Windmill Village Hotel sits on the outskirts of Coventry, overlooking the surrounding golf course, with a range of spaces for weddings and celebrations. It gave Cortney and Dan plenty of different spaces throughout the day, while also providing somewhere for everyone to come together and celebrate.

For a wedding photographer, having different spaces and backdrops to work with means there are always opportunities to find something a little different especially when the weather keeps changing!

The moments in between.

For me, the best part of second shooting is being able to look for the moments happening slightly away from the main action.

While one photographer is capturing the key moment, there are often dozens of little stories happening around it. Someone laughing with a friend, a guest watching the couple, a quick hug, a reaction nobody planned, a moment of chaos that turns into a favourite photograph.

Those are the photographs that make a wedding gallery feel like a story rather than simply a collection of posed images. And Cortney and Dan gave me plenty of those moments to look out for.

A brilliant day to be part of...

Cortney and Dan, thank you for letting me capture a little part of your wedding day. It was such a fun day to be part of, and I loved getting to photograph all the laughter, chaos and moments in between.

And a huge thank you to With Georgina Photography for having me along to second shoot for you!

If you’re planning your own wedding and want photographs that capture more than just the big moments, I’d love to hear from you. My approach is relaxed and documentary-style, with a focus on capturing the genuine moments, emotions and little interactions that make your wedding yours.

Your wedding doesn’t have to feel like a photoshoot!

It’s your day. Enjoy it, I’ll capture the story as it unfolds.
